Around 10 p.m. Sunday there was a lot of activity around the grill at the Millbrook Men’s Club Pavilion. Smoke was wafting through the air and offered a delicious aroma.

Boston Butts were loaded up and cooking. Across the way the Camp Stew pots were full to the brim and bubbling. In the kitchen/preparation area the containers of homemade barbecue sauce were already waiting. This is a sauce created by longtime Men’s Club member Gene Jones, and his recipe is still used today.

Beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, the annual Labor Day Barbecue will kick off for the organization that has been serving the Millbrook area for 80 years.

Every bit of money made on Labor Day for this annual sale will go straight back to the community in a variety of grants, scholarships and donations.

If you are heading out for some barbecue goodness for Labor Day, come early, bring a box to carry your extra food, and thank a Millbrook Men’s Club member or all they do.

These photos show the crew that will work into the morning hours. Sale begins at 6 a.m. and usually sells out in a few hours. Cash or checks only please!

The sale is held across from the Civic Center and the Millbrook ball fields behind Village Green on Main Street. See more photos below.
