Members of Prattville High School’s Class of 1986 took a step back in time Thursday evening as they unearthed a time capsule buried 40 years ago, rekindling memories ahead of their upcoming class reunion.
The time capsule was located beside the brick Prattville High School marker on campus. The marker was donated by the Class of 1986 and served as the centerpiece of what was then known as the senior courtyard.
“Today’s unearthing was a way for us to celebrate each other in a different way by bringing back to life a lot of memories that have been buried for many years,” said Larisa Lambert, SGA president of Prattville High School Class of 1986.
Class members gathered to witness the long-awaited opening, eager to discover what they had chosen to preserve as graduating seniors.
“We are all eager to see what we included in the time capsule. Unearthing it as part of our 40th reunion will, no doubt, bring back a flood of memories,” said Haden Anderson, senior class president of the Prattville High School Class of 1986. “We have laughed about the likelihood of there being a pair of parachute pants, or maybe a Walkman and cassette tapes included. Rowdy rags were at every football game, so we certainly included at least one of those.”
Prattville High School Principal Dr. Daniel Farris said the event highlights the school’s longstanding traditions and the connection alumni continue to have with their alma mater.
“It’s thrilling to be part of Prattville High School’s rich tradition,” Farris said. “Reconnecting with some of these preserved traditions through this alumni group is a unique opportunity. It’s exciting that this class had the forethought as seniors to do this so we can enjoy it and look back together today.”
The Class of 1986 will continue its celebration during its 40-year reunion at 6 p.m. July 18 at the Prattville Country Club. Classmates are expected to travel from across the country, including New Jersey and Indiana, to attend the event.

For the Class of 1986, the time capsule served as more than a collection of memorabilia. Four decades after it was buried, it offered a chance to reconnect with classmates, relive shared experiences and celebrate the lasting traditions that continue to unite generations of Prattville High School graduates.
