Autauga County resident arrested for possession of child sexual abuse material

From: Chief P.K. Johnson

Millbrook Police Department

During May 2026, detectives with the Millbrook Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit initiated an investigation after receiving a series of cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children concerning expected Child Sexual Abuse Material.

On July 1, 2026, Millbrook detectives were able to locate and interview the subject of this investigation, later identified as La Jarvis Chaney, a 20-year-old Deatsville resident, who subsequently admitted to possessing Child Sexual Abuse Material on his cellular phone. Upon conclusion of his interview, Chaney was placed under arrest, being charged with (5) counts of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material. Chaney was processed and later transported to the Elmore County Jail, where he was placed under a $75,000.00 bond.

Detectives from the Millbrook Police Department are part of the Alabama Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). This agency actively investigates ICAC-related crimes. Our detectives and officers take their roles protecting our citizens seriously, particularly our young people. While it’s both deplorable and a shame that material like this exist and is available for consumption, I’m extremely thankful that there are men and women that stand at the ready to investigate crimes like this and do what is necessary to apprehend and prosecute individuals that foster and participate in these types criminal offenses.

Unfortunately, in this career field, law enforcement, prosecutors and the judicial branch are exposed to things that that we can’t unsee. We are aware of things that are extremely disturbing, particularly when you are a parent or grandparent. There’s nothing more innocent and pure as a child. No child should ever be the object of or be subjected to things like the material depicted in the offenses alleged in this and similar cases.
